Andre Villas-Boas' hopes of upsetting his former employers were dashed by a stirring Chelsea comeback, led by Juan Mata who scored twice and grabbed another assist.
Chelsea took the lead through a thunderous Gary Cahill volley and, in truth, rarely looked troubled for the remainder of the first half.
However, in the first minute after the break the Blues switched off allowing William Gallas to nod home from close range.
The goal sparked Spurs into life and Jermain Defoe made their increased pressure count when he turned home Aaron Lennon's cross-cum-shot.
Chelsea, though, were not done and had Mata to thank for overturning the deficit.
First, the little Spaniard pounced on a poor Gallas cross - the Frenchman had also been culpable for Cahill's opener - and drilled a low shot inside the post.
Within minutes, after Fernando Torres had missed a guilt-edged opportunity, Mata had added his second and Chelsea's third, firing high past Brad Friedel from Eden Hazard's sumptuous pass.
Daniel Sturridge then added one more in stoppage time from a Mata pass.
