Onigbinde Eagles Deserve FIFA Ranking Boost

Former Super Eagles coach, Adegboye Onigbinde feels the Nigerian national team deserved the latest FIFA ranking they got after the world governing body placed them in the 57th position, rising six places above their former position.

Onigbinde is of the opinion that the team wouldn’t have found themselves where they are at the moment if their results had been reminiscent of their past achievements.

“The ranking is cumulative, so the Super Eagles are where they are now because they have not lived up to expectations.

“I don’t think anybody’s opinion has anything to do with,” Onigbinde states in response to Complete Sports’ question.

“FIFA’s ranking is fair because we all know how countries can gain or lose points.

Onigbinde however agrees that the Eagles can start climbing the table beginning from when they play their friendlies down to when the 2013 African Nations Cup kicks off, but insists they must take their games seriously.

“They can improve starting from this month when they play Venezuela until next year when they play the Nations Cup. But it also depends on who they play. Tt’s only Stephen Keshi that decides who they play and how they play,” Onigbinde concludes.

Eagles’ Nations Cup Group B foes, Zambia,  Burkina Faso and Ethiopia are ranked 39th, 89th and 102nd respectively. However, only Zambia(5th) and Nigeria(10th) are in the African Top 10 rankings.
